game, Arsuf, great. Jim went away and researched the armies on 1:50 scale, prepared all the commands and unit stats. Then Impetus died in my group. However I had about 1/3 of the Crusader infantry and 2/3 of their cavalry done and just sitting in boxes. The Arabs need some more infantry to complete them as well.
A year or so ago Fireforge started to release plastics and I got a box of the Templar cavalry to see what they were like. I decided they were not right for the 3rd Crusade, clipped them off their sprues and put the bits away. I eventually decided to build and paint them up only to discover I had misplaced the heads. I was sent some by a kind chap on the SAGA forum but they ended up being Teutonic. Another kind chap from the Falkirk club gave me enough of the Templar heads in a small bag at Wappinshaw last year and these promptly fell through a hole in my pocket. Lucky white heather or what. Being a cheapskate I bought a box of the mtd sgts for the heads then the Templar foot and the foot sgts.
The minis are nice and most fit together well.
The Templar boxes are more for the later crusade period judging by the heater type shields, surcoats and half the horses being barded. However the helms, some with hoods, and kite shields in the same boxes are really for the earlier period. There is one shield style in every box the like of which I have only seen on fantasy miniatures.
I have mixed parts from 4 different Fireforge boxes along with some Conquest, Perry and Gripping Beast plastic parts. The lances have been shortened and some shields have been converted to kite or chopped kite.
The plastic base on the mini make any size difference stand out a bit more so I put them on thinner card unit bases.
Templar sergeants Xbow and spear units.
Both spear units are short a mini, but I plan to get some GB sergeants at Claymore.
Hospitillar cavalry, the barded horses in this and the Templar one have Perry war of the roses horse heads.
Only 2 packs of GB metals, another 4 bases of spear and 6 bases of Xbow to finish the Crusaders. Then on to the missing Saracen infantry we need a pile of skirmishing archers and Bedouin javelinmen. I already have a box of GB plastics built but will need at least 1 more, so when they are done will post up the Arab forces.
